Do More Than Be A Lump
I was on a cruise with my mother and as I guess is usual, there was a high number of older people. My mother has celebrated quite a few birthdays but she is young in every other way. She was one of the fiestier ladies on the boat.
One of the things she and I observed was that many of the people seemed like they were not very connected to life. They didn't have much to say, they had little expression of any kind of emotion, especially happiness and many of those that we ended up calling Lumps never left the boat when we went into each town. That would have been fine, but as we found out, they didn't participate in any of the activities either.
We concluded that of course they didn't do or say much because lumps are lumps for a reason. After thinking about how people become lumps I made a few observations:
They never developed an interest in anything that sparked their passion
They never learned how to play
They probably worked all their lives, just like they were taught to do...period
They lived quiet lives of desperation
They don't know any different
More than anything, the idea of so many people becoming lumps made me sad. Mostly, because they are missing out on so much. I am so appreciative that I am alive, I get to be human, I get to experience this amazing planet with my senses, I get to feel my emotions deeply, I get to be creative, and mostly, because I am aware of all of that, I am in constant awe and gratitude. continued
