Affirmations Alone Are Not Enough
Affirmations are great. They help you focus on what you want and even to get clear about what are the priorities in your life. But saying a positive word or phrase to yourself is only the beginning. They won't really make the changes until you put some action in your plan.
Make a list of what you want, determine what item is most important then create a phrase that is positive and empowering. Make it in the first person as if you already have that quality you seek. If you've become negative and maybe even a little depressed an example might be, "I am happy and full of life." Say that every morning before you get out of bed, as you leave the house, on your way to work, before you meet with anyone, and before you go to bed. This affirmation can help you alter your beliefs about yourself, help sweep away negative thoughts. But you also need to take some action and responsibility for your life.
Make a list of the negative things you tell yourself about yourself. Then when you catch those thoughts swimming by, say your affirmation. Make a date to spend time with people who make you laugh, who bring out the positive, playful side of you. Read an uplifting, inspiring book. Set some goals and create a step-by-step plan to achieve those goals, and by when. Go to a comedy with a good friend. That is what I mean by taking action. Affirmations alone don't really change much. They feel good but only on the surface. You need to do things that will make you believe your affirmations right down to your bones, at the cellular level.
So begin by creating an empowering affirmation but don't forget to also create a plan of action. But only if you really and truly want to make those changes you've been talking about.
Joyfully,
