Angels In the Outfield

Angels In the OutfieldThen one day, actually, one evening they left me. I was an interior designer at the time and a client, who had become a friend, was dying of breast cancer. Melitta was only in her thirties and had just given birth a few weeks earlier to her third son. One evening, only a few days before she died, I went to the hospital to visit her. Her husband, Kenny, a terrific man, was there, sleeping on a cot. We talked for a while then I went out to my car to leave. When I got into my car, the angels weren't there. It was a strange feeling because they'd been by my side since the first time I "saw" them. Then I realized they had stayed in my friend's room.

She was allowed to go home so she could die with her family around her. I told Kenny about the angels and that they'd stayed with Melitta. At the funeral I told him that I saw them flying around the chapel and that made him feel better. He and I continued to work together to finish decorating the amazing home he and Melitta were building. Whenever I visited him at the house, there were the roller-blader angels. His home was a child's fantasy come true with tunnels, waterfalls, secret play areas, and lots of love. They decided to stay there. I guess it was more fun.

It may sound like I'm crazy, or was, but to me, it was helpful that I saw these angels and that they were there for me. Whether they were real or not is not the point. It's that they helped me and my friends through some very hard times.

Whether it's angels, goddesses, God, or any form of higher power, if they can help us to know that we're not alone, then that's what really matters. Hope, guidance, love, support, that's why we need to know that there's something bigger than ourselves that can be depended on when we need them. And I know from personal experience that it really does make a difference in our lives.
