This is just for the few of you who might be interested in Chris and my trip to Scotland.

We landed in Edinburgh and spend two days there to get a bit used to the time change. It was pretty rainy and we were tired so we didn't enjoy it as much as we could. But we did see the castle, which is pretty impressive to look up to.

After we got our rental car we were in for some pretty tense learning. Chris had driven for 2 weeks in Wales and England but it's still difficult when your life is at stake. We drove to our time share and enjoyed a week on beautiful Loch Tay.

From there we took day trips exploring ruined castles where we loved climbing up and down spiral staircases, trying to imagine what it would have been like to have lived in that kind of a building, in that time.

Kenmore Bridge

We really got into the history of Scotland, each castle, the families that built and lived in the castles. I feel like I know as much, if not more, about Scottish history. Partly because there's so much more of it than in the U.S. I became so fascinated by Mary Queen of Scots that Chris bought me a novel about her. What an interesting life she lived. We especially loved the castle ruins that were in nature settings. Somehow they brought together the best of both aspects of Scotland.

Doane Castle

We were gone almost 4 weeks and every day but 3 it rained. I decided that a good day in Scotland was when it didn't rain too much, and it turned out to be the same for Ireland. But we rarely got rained out to where we couldn't do something when we wanted to. We got used to the drizzle and didn't let it bother us. The first day Chris bought me a cashmere scarf and I wore it wrapped around my neck pretty much every day. I also wore my sweater, rain coat and often my cloves. I'm so glad I took all tha with me.

After our time share, which was in Kenmore, we headed north through Inverness then back down, not going over to the islands. We stayed in 10 places. Some inns, some bed and breakfasts and a fabulous castle called Glenapp. I've never stayed anywhere to beautiful where they had everything you could imagine to make it comfortable and attractive, like sachet hanging in the closet and padded draperies so they would hang perfectly. And the food was fantastic. With the conversion from the dollar to the pound it was $1000 for the night. Even Chris, who has traveled first class most of his life said he'd never stayed anywhere as high quality.

The countryside was absolutely gorgeous, everywhere we went. And so varied from the middle, to the north (the highlands) back down to the south. This is a picture of Chris on a beautiful spot on the Ring of Kerry. We drove through this section twice. What a treasure this entire area of Ireland is. Chris in Ireland

Here are some of our favorite castles:

This was a fascinating fort we went out of our way to visit in Ireland. They think it is around 300 B.C., probably a fort, where a group of people lived and worked in side. It's a full circle, huge, where you can walk up to the top. It's very wide and no morter, just stones piled on top of stones. And it sits with hills behind and a view to the sea below. We loved it..

If you want more, let me know. It takes a lot of time to get the photos on, which I don't mind, if I know
there is interest.

Joyfully,
