Hi, it's Kara here,

It's a foggy Saturday afternoon here in Palos Verdes, California. Usually I sit overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Catalina Island. Today all I can see is white. That's okay because every day is a beautiful day because I'm alive. One item that is always on my daily list of things to be grateful for is that I am blessed to be human (particularly blessed to be a woman), living on this beautiful planet, at this time in history. You and I, all of us, are blessed, even though sometimes we can't see it or feel it. Many people are given tremendous obstacles to deal with and many of those are unbelievably happy and even inspirational. No matter what might be going on in your life to pull you down, you can–if you know how–rise above it, count your blessings, and find happiness. All it takes is a shift in perspective. A happy, inspiring paraplegic simply has a different perspective than someone who is upset because they can't get a date for Saturday night. Look for the blessings and you'll find them. That alone will change your perspective and everything will begin to take on a new glow.

In this issue:
1) A Mean Little Book
2) The Gift of Girlfriends
3) Beautiful E-Cards
4) Is MSG Making Us Fat?

1) A Mean Little Book
I was at a Hallmark store the other day and on the counter was a stand with the cutest little 2 inch books. One grabbed my attention because the title was "What Women Say About Men". On each page was a put-down of men. The one I remember was "The more I understand men, the more I like dogs." After reading a couple more I asked the man at the counter if all the entries were that mean spirited. He said pretty much but that he thought they were kind of funny. We talked more about the commercials, films, and sitcoms that make men look like bafoons. The fact that he's accepted this as how it is made me sad.

I asked him if he thought a book that was aimed at putting down women would sell and he agreed with me that women would be completely up in arms. Putting men down has become so common that we don't generally question it. But think about this: How might this attitude be coloring your image of men and how you treat them? And how might that be affecting your current or past relationships? Pay attention over the next few weeks. Maybe there are some adjustments in your thinking and interactions that could help your relationships with men.

2) The Gift of Girlfriends
It was my birthday on March 14th. On the 12th a girlfriend that I consider the closest thing to a sister that I've ever had took me to lunch; on the 13th two of my girlfriends from when I was an interior designer took me to lunch at the gorgeous Four Seasons Biltmore overlooking the Pacific Ocean; on the evening of the 13th my two grown kids, grandson, my son's girlfriend and my daughter's boyfriend took me to sushi; then on the 14th I shared lunch with ten girlfriends and my mother. Last week my best friend brought blackened scallops over to my house to continue my birthday celebrating. I made a salad, and, after talking non-stop for an hour and a half. Each celebration was uniquely different and very special because I was surrounded by people who I care about and who care about me. At the big lunch there were too many to be able to be in on each conversation. But at one point I just looked down the table and smiled because I just loved how all the women were enjoying each other so much. Women are so great and I am so lucky to have such wonderful women with whom I get to celebrate life.

I hope you have family and girlfriends who love you. I hope you make time to see them regularly. And I hope you take advantage of them as your mirror for how special you are. We all need that, maybe more than you realize.

3) Beautiful E-Cards
I got a beautiful and quite unique e-card from an old interior design client who has been a dear friend for over twelve years. I went onto the artist's website and was so impressed I thought I'd pass the address on to you. You have to pay a bit to be able to send them but if you enjoy sending e-cards you might want to take a look. Just go to: Beautiful E-Cards

4) Is MSG Making Us Fat?
I got a disturbing message from a woman I met at a workshop. I posted it on my website instead of putting it in this email. I don't know if it's true but I do know that my mother, my daughter, and I are allergic to MSG. I had no idea that it was in so many of our foods. Makes you think. Here's the article: MSGHealthIssue.html

Until next time, I hope you continue to "come alive with love."

With much love,
Kara
