1. Special Gifts 1. SPECIAL GIFTS This is the season of gift giving and receiving. That can be fun, but sometimes tedious, and often downright burdensome. But I'm talking about something different. Because the new year is a time to contemplate changes in our lives I want to talk to you about some other kinds of gifts. There are several. One kind of gift is you. That's right. You are a gift to this planet. How do I know this? Because you are totally unique in the entire universe. There is no one like you, nor has there ever been, or ever will be. That's pretty amazing considering how many people have been hanging around this planet. That makes you extremely special. You are so lucky to be a human, on this magnificent planet, at this time in history. Life is another gift. Your life! That is an immensely special gift from the universe. A gift to you, just to you. To do with as you please. But to do anything less than treasure your gift of life is a dishonour to whom or whatever caused you to be. Your parents, of course. But I'm talking about the mystery of creation, be it God, or something so beyond our contemplation that we would frazzle our minds to know it. Why are you here, right now, surrounded by the people you know? You are special and you have something to offer them, the gift of you. What is your gift to the people in your life? What is your gift to the earth? How can you honour the gift of you by giving to others? I don't mean money or even charity, which is certainly well and good. What I mean is more than that. How are you impressing who you are on others? Do you emit love, playfulness, inspiration? Who and how you are is an ongoing gift. How are you adding to the experiences of others by your presence? That might seem intimidating but it's worth your awareness. You are making a difference in people's lives whether you know it or not, whether you like it or not. So why not make a difference that is positive. That's part of my concept of Feminine Grace. Awareness that you are here for a reason, that you have something to offer, and that you can make a difference in people's lives is pretty big. I want you to feel empowered as a woman, to be empowered exactly because you are a woman. And what a lovely gift it is to be a woman. Being a woman is so phenomenal. You are emotional, creative, loving, kind, brave, and your body can create a child. Wow! How can you serve others through your gift of womanhood? Let your inner light shine and others will want to bask in it. And for my lovely men who receive my newsletter. You can rise to the challenge of being a man by being the best version of a man you can be. Then you can offer yourself in ways that make a difference in people's lives. Another kind of gift is your talents. Do you take time to nurture them? Are you an artist, a dancer, a writer, a musician, an athlete, and not giving those talents your heart's attention? Give your talents to your community as one of your many gifts that helps society rise to new heights. When you do that your abilities are gifts given with pureness of heart. Offer them for the joy of others and in return, they will offer you the gift of money so they can enjoy the honor of shariing a piece of your spirit. I challenge you to make a list of all the gifts that are part of you and then seek ways to honour and offer those gifts to others. How can the gift that you are make a difference? As Oprah says in this month's O Magazine, "Live so that at the end of each day, you can say, 'I did my very best.'" 2. Because I wanted to talk about more than just love and romance I changed the name to AliveWithLove.com. But it is mostly only meaningful to me. No matter what, I'll always be trying to inspire you to create more love in your life so love is a good theme. A new name that bubbled up, and that feels just right to me, is AliveWithLove.com. It's more than just about man/woman romantic love. It's about creating love in every aspect of your life. That's when you are your happiest, most joyful self. So sometime in the next few weeks, you'll see the new name. I hope you like all the changes that will go with it. 4. PEACE OF MIND IN THE COMING NEW YEAR I recently reconnected with my soul sister. A decision I had made a few years ago caused her to step away from our friendship. (It had to do with The Dung Beetle.) When Paige and I met it was instant connection so it was hard not to have her in my life over these past few years. But I cleared the debris from that bad decision and called her. It was like we had never been apart. I described the legal mess I was dealing with and she told me about something that I absolutely must share with you. It could have saved me thousands and thousands of dollars and a lot of heartache if I'd had it. LET'S MEET IN THE CARIBBEAN I have a birthday coming up in March and it would be a perfect time for a vacation in the tropics. Claudio said the room rates will be from $100 to $150 depending on how grand you want the meals to be. I'm just in the planning stages but I think it would be just fabulous to meet some of you. FLIRTING MEANS PLAYING WITH PEOPLE I was at a movie with my mother recently. As I was leaving the theatre I turned and gushed, "That was a fabulous movie, wasn't it?" Well, the woman next to me wasn't my mother. Instead of getting embarrassed, I said playfully, "You're not my mother?" She responded with laughter, "No, I'm not, but the movie was fabulous." We then chatted a bit and parted with lifted hearts for having had the exchange. Fast forward a few days. I was having lunch with a friend and a woman came up behind me and tapped my shoulder, offering an enthusiastic, "Hi!" I turned around and she looked like she wanted to crawl under the tablecloth. She was so embarrassed that she had mistaken me for someone else. I tried to play with her and make her feel okay, that it was actually kind of cute, but she would have nothing to do with it. She chose to stay devastated with embarrassment. She didn't know how to flirt and play and I felt really sad for her. The first lady responded to my flirting by playing with me while the second woman did not. The first woman left feeling light hearted and happy and the second walked away feeling awful. My point? Play with people, flirt with everyone, children and oldsters, male and female, and do your best to make them feel good. The Ostrich A short time later the waitress returns with the order. "That will be $6.40 please," and the man reaches into his pocket and pulls out the exact change for payment. The next day, the man and the ostrich come again and the man says "I'll have a hamburger, fries and a coke," and the ostrich says, "I'll have the same."- Once again the man reaches into his pocket and pays with exact change. This becomes a routine until late one evening, the two enter again. "The usual?" asks the waitress. "No, this is Friday night, so I will have a steak, baked potato and salad," says the man, "same for me," says the ostrich. A short time later the waitress comes with the order and says, "That will be $12.62." Once again the man pulls exact change out of his pocket and places it on the table. The waitress can't hold back her curiosity any longer. "Excuse me, sir. How do you manage to always come up with the exact change out of your pocket every time?" "Well," says the man, "several years ago I was cleaning the attic and I found an old lamp. When I rubbed it a Genie appeared and offered me two wishes. My first wish was that if I ever had to pay for anything, I would just put my hand in my pocket and the right amount of money would always be there." "That's brilliant!" says the waitress. "Most people would wish for a million dollars or something, but you'll always be as rich as you want for as long as you live!" "That's right. Whether it's a gallon of milk or a Rolls Royce, the exact money is always there," says the man. The waitress asks, "One other thing, sir, what's with the ostrich?" The man sighs, pauses, and answers, "My second wish was for a tall chick with long legs who agrees with everything I say." I wish you a holiday season filled with family and friends who love the gift that you are to them. And I hope you will make 2004 the best year ever.
