When I heard Star Jones’ announcement yesterday that she was leaving the View I felt really bad and was seriously considering sending her an email of support. (I’ve obviously missed the gossip that she was going to be leaving.) But when I heard Barbara Walters’ explanation this morning that Star had dishonored the View’s preference to protect Star, I decided that this was the perfect opportunity to celebrate my first Ugly Woman Award.
Star gets the Ugly Woman Award because she should be ashamed of how she is behaving. She has become a very rich celebrity and should be heaping mountains of appreciation and thanksgiving on Barbara Walters and the producers of The View. The opportunities and the doors opened have been beyond most people’s wildest imagination. Even now the notice at MSNBC is kind.
I wish Star well in her future and am saddened that her actions will no doubt cause her life to be forever tarnished by her short-sighted behavior.
My definition of being ugly is when a woman is being bitchy; when she is out of integrity; when she is whining or ungrateful; when she is putting a man down or emasculating him; when she is being a mean mother, not respectful of her children’s unique spirit; and when she’s nagging, complaining, mean, disrespectful, and/or crass. So I am going to tell you when I’ve seen a women being ugly when I’m out and about or in the media. My term for a woman who is being beautiful is Feminine Grace. You can read about Feminine Grace here.
Good luck, my dear,
Kara

So, let me see if I understand this correctly. Star is “released” from her job after 10 years and as long as she doesn’t tell anyone she was fired everything will be okay?
But, if she tells anyone the truth she won’t be backed up, instead she will face a character assination?
Hmmm…
I give her the “Woman of Courage” award!!!

BTW - I don’t think “The View” is engaging in character assassination either. I think Barbara Walters has reacted with integrity and grace. But I question if others may be.
You see, sometimes people can experience loss and grief when they lose that which they have identified themselves with for a decade. They react in various ways.
I question placing judgment on individuals during a time of loss.
Perhaps the way to respond to all may be with patience and love - not participating in negativity.
In this manner, and hopefully with time, it leaves the possibility open for those directly involved to come to terms with the situation and hopefully renew their relationships.

I believe Barbara Walters is the type of individual who on a personal level truly cares about what happens to her friend and will make every effort to help those involved.
Barbara Walters is reacting with integrity.
Star is reacting by showing courage in the face of adversity.
I will refrain from posting anything further.
Thank you.

Kara, Not so fast with the swift judgment on Star Jones!!!! We have not heard all the details. Just because Barbara Walters says it, does not make it an absolute.

“Barbara say this” and “Star says that”, although they had differing opinions on various topics on the show, it’s the differences of opinions is what made the show unique. Watching The View won’t be the same without Star Jones. Lets hope all differences will be resolved.

HI Tina,
I agree with you, things won’t be the same. And Star is so intelligent. Her mind, her strength and her usual Feminine Grace will be missed. I hope I am wrong that this will taint her future.
Joyfully,
Kara

I feel that ABC has made a HUGE mistake in letting Star Jones go. Her exit was done gracefully and truthfully, and she has had nothing but nice things to say about Barbara Walters and “The View”, which job she obviously treasured, on her website, Star Jones.com. Far from being a person who cannot be trusted for telling the truth instead of a lie about why she was leaving, she is a person who had the integrity to tell the truth instead of making up a face-saving lie. Not many people would do that. But she was a prosecutor and an officer of the law, so that shows that she has more integrity than show biz people, who are used to pulling the wool over peoples’ eyes. She is refreshing on many levels, especially in her grace. She endured a great deal of abuse from Joy Behar on The View, and nobody, especially Barbara Walters, reined Behar in or told her to lay off. Perhaps the executives thought the conflict was good television and kept viewers tuned in, but it had to be torture for Star to be berated nonstop by Behar, who hides behind the title of “comedienne” for some really mean-spirited, nasty comments and personal attacks. I hope that Star Jones, who is a class act, continues to shine brightly. The View may roll on without her, but she didn’t deserve what happened to her there, and as a nine year veteran of the show who was with it from the very start, she deserved more both from Barbara as the producer and from ABC network executives. There have been some real network snafus and bobbles in the treatment of highly regarded television icons in news circles, and this is one of them! Long may she shine! Hope she gets a competing show and makes it a smash hit with her own brand of honesty and her own choice of who gets to be on it with her, as well as what topics they hit on. I’ll bet it is far more meaty and interesting than the lightweight topics that The View takes on. Evidently the producers and Barbara herself think the people who stay at home days are lightweight thinkers incapable of getting down and real with some better topics than The View has come up with! I could do better than that with one hand tied behind my back!
