Dialogue…I love it!

I was hoping that my post about Star Jones would create some dialogue. Thank you, all of you, for taking the time to comment. Actually, I have enjoyed what Star Jones has brought to the show since the first day. My comments were more about the damage she is doing to herself. I do not know the back-room details but it appears that Barbara wanted to help Star save face. It is Star’s choice to tell the truth but the fact that she chose to be less than graceful is why I offer this first award. One of the most significant aspects of Feminine Grace is that a woman be able to walk away from any situation (even when she needs to be the bad guy) so that those left behind say, “What a woman” with a bit of awe and admiration in their voice. What Star has chosen to do has sullied her good name by being ugly.

I don’t know why she was released. My reaction was that the show would suffer without her. I wanted to write to her and tell her so. I admire her and hope that this will lead her to greater heights. But I think there will be a stain on her name for a very long time. That makes me sad. She is a gracious woman (or so it has seemed over the years) so it is surprising that she did not handle this with more grace, especially since she has had plenty of time to adjust, and because it “appears” that she and the View had made a deal to make the announcement on Thursday. I’m sure more will be revealed.

Blessings on all…

I just wanted to make it clear that I realize that I’m being ugly by saying anything derogatory about Star Jones in the midst of her difficulties. My goal is to create awareness and dialogue about Feminine Grace, a dying aspect of womanly power. So maybe I should get the second award.

The ABC network fired Star several months ago, then said they were giving her the “opportunity” to protect herself. What they were giving her was the opportunity to protect them by not letting the cat out of the bag that she had been fired. They wanted her to lie. Barbara told the media that while Rosie O’Donnell and Star have no love lost between them and that Rosie would take her seat at the roundtable in the fall, Star was welcome to return. Star was notified that her contract was not being renewed shortly before the announcement about Rosie O’Donnell. Therefore, Barbara lied to the media and was way out of integrity on this. Star’s announcement on Tuesday showed more grace and class than Barbara and ABC deserved. Her decision to tell the truth to People magazine was of higher integrity than Barbara herself was willing to show. If anyone in this situation deserves an Ugly Woman award, it’s not Star but Barbara Walters.

Well, giving Barbara Walters an Ugly Woman Award would certainly add some spice to this stew. The bottom line is who is acting out of integrity and who isn’t. When I advise women on how to make their list of what they are looking for in a man, I always tell them that if I was their mother, I’d say put integrity in the number one spot. Because without it, you really don’t have a real man. We don’t think about integrity as one of those qualities to look for in a woman but honesty and self-respect are key to the character of any person. I wonder what the real truth is. This is not about a silly TV show, it really is about integrity. If I am wrong in awarding Star Jones the first Ugly Woman Award, I’m happy to admit it.

    Thanks for keeing things interesting,
    Kara

Two incredible women are involved in an “Ugly Situation” that is playing out in the media. Perhaps on some level what we are viewing is how each of us may be perceived by others if we were to react in such a manner under similar circumstances. It highlights the ethical decisions we face in our own lives.

  5. Kara Oh Says:

EXACTLY! I’m so happy that you see my point in discussing this “media” event at all. It’s all about learning from watching. Hopefully we can all be more discerning about how we interact with others. We have more choice than we realize. All we need to do is slow down, take a moment, and make smarter decisions about what to say and do.

This is especially important in what we say to our loved ones, in particular our romantic partner. So often, we speak without thinking then wonder why things aren’g going the way we want. Feminine Grace should permeate all aspects of our daily lives. It’s a tool that can help us rise to become our best.

    With much love,
    Kara

I understand why Star is being so vocal about the latest turn of events. She feels hurt and betrayed about the situation. One does not usually invest 9 years of her life blindly.Making a public announcement was her way of taking back control. Though we the public did not see the need for the on air announcement,we don’t know what was going on behind the scenes. Perhaps the network was trying to bully her into leaving, and did not use the most ethical methods to achieve that.(It happens) How courageous is it when someone is trying to supress you, and you make a public announcement that not only are you leaving , but you are thanking them for what they gave you.
We all wince when we see someone being emotional, but are we examining the basis for these emotions?
I happened to see a recent episode of the View. It’s been a long time for me( years) since I have seen an episode. Though it is considered a “comfortable show, some of the original professionalism has definately been lost. I really don’t think that its the same quality it was some time ago.
I would anticipate an ugly media battle , which is unfortunate, but I think there are times when you should stand up for yourself. i only hope that Star planned well for the next part of her journey, and I wish her all the best.

    Star is not being ugly.
She’s just telling her side of the story.
Why should she sit quiet and let the tabloids and media spreads lies about a side of the story only she knows.

Barbara is being ugly. Before I learnt about the details we now know, I was shocked that she’d show so much support to an other really ugly woman, Rosie O Donnell who viciously attacked Star and her family in the media.

Talk about stabbing a collegue you’ve spend 9 years with in the back !

Go Star. Tell us what’s on your mind. You’ve always voiced your point of you.
Please don’t stop now because some people believe Barbara can do no wrong.

I agree with these posts. Nine years and to be treated as Star was was HORRIBLE!!!!! Babs did not have her back and neither did that idiot Exec. Producer Bill. And would someone tell me what the BFD is that she announced her departure 2 days earlier than scheduled. In December they (ANC Brass Monkeys) had already decided she would be gone by July 13,2006. What gives? And why would announcing her departure early, so she could get the hell out of a horrible situation, be seen by some as a negative. Why was Babs so bothered by this? Because she could no longer control Star? GOOD!!! I really do not understand that. To be honest, Star got on my nerves big time. I thought at times she needed to get over herself and her marriage to Al and all of that. But to be treated so badly by the show and Babs. If you heard what Star said that day there was no venom, no mean-ness or “Ugly Woman-ness” she was a class act that day. I was so impressed with the inner strength that it must have took to do what she did. And I can tell you now, that show will be off most likely with in a year. Rosy is too damn brash and uptight about her sexuality to me. I for one could give a rats arse about who is sleeping with who. I dont care. I will not be tuning in to see her. Sorry. They have lost a View’er for sure in me. Star, helped build that show to what it was and to be told you cant come back because Rosie does not like the fact that you did not admit that you had gastric bypass surgery? Rosy has a problem with other strong woman that is why she wanted Star gone. Trust.
